Hi Zoom, that is a great goal list, and so energizing to see them being met!
I also have a VStar 650 and keep kicking around the idea of getting a bigger bike, but haven't commited to it yet. I'm curious as to what is drawing you to a bigger bike, as it seems you are able to go on long trips, and just about anywhere you want on the 650. Is it more power? If so why, when was the 650 not powerful enough? Is it comfort? etc.

I went on a 65 mile solo ride yesterday (hubby wasn't feeling well) and it was great! I am still having issues with leaning enough in turns so I threw in some parking lot figure 8s and circles too. There are very few curved roads here in the Mojave desert to practice on. However, one road we like to go on is curvey and I managed to scare myself badly by losing focus (daydreaming, enjoying the moment) and entering a turn too fast, didn't lean and ended up in the oncoming lane, blind to an oncoming traffic or not. Fortunatly, there was no oncoming car and I recovered, but it scared me good.
Thanks!
Melinda

Thank you for the reply Zoom! My reasons for wanting a bigger bike are about the same. I am 5'8" and sometimes the 650 feels a little cramped. I too notice the vibration a lot at 60+ MPH. My DH has a Vulcan 2000, that is more than 3 times the size of my bike! LOL. I am looking at the Vulcan 900, or a VStar or Honda 1100, 1300. There are also some nice Vulcan 1500, but they are pretty darn big. I will know when the time/bike is right when I see it I guess ;-)

Zoom, have a good trip! Hubby and I will be going to Palm Bay in October. This weekend, our group is going up to ride the Dragon, but I'm still on the fence if I will actually do it once I get there. :?

We are actually going to a "meet" of sorts where a guy in the Victory Motorcycle Club is having his own "Lobsterfest" at his house in Palm Bay the same weekend as Biketoberfest in Daytona. He's quite the sport fisherman and is catching and freezing lots of seafood (lobster included) to feed everybody at his party.

Zoom,

I may have put more miles on Molly, this year, then you did on Cowboy and your new bike but if you compare my 1st year of riding to your 1st year of riding, you BLEW ME AWAY!!!!!

I am honored and priviledged to be able to ride the same roads as you and with you.

One of my 2010 goals is to become MSF Instructor Qualified. My MSF Instructor has been asking me about getting qualified but I felt I was still too green a rider. After discussing it with my husband, he assures me I am ready. I hope so as I think it would a great experince to help others, expecially women, learn to ride and . . . share with them what we have at VTwinMama.

No way Donna, it's me that is privileged to ride with you!!! You have been all over and did the iron butt thingy, I think that is quite an accomplishment, I want to do it some day. Maybe I am following in your footsteps though because I did ride to Florida finally LOL.

I think you would make an awesome MSF instructor...Sounds like a great thing to do. I think having women teachers would make the women more comfortable, I know it would have me when I took the class. It sounds fun! Thats a job you can enjoy.

I have had several women, from the LOH and HOG Dragon Chapter, ask if I was planning on doing the Iron Butt again as they wanted to do it and go with me on my next trip. I would love to be there for your Iron Butt ride. You are more than ready. Let's see if we can "Make It Happen" in 2010!

WHOOOO HOOOOO!!!! I did it. I am the TOP MILEAGE RIDER for 2009 in our Dragon HOG Chapter. We log miles from January 1 to our meeting in November (3rd Thursday) and announce the winner at our Christmas Party.

I was the winner with 26,217 miles for the year. Next closet rider was 22,700. I was Top Female Ride in 2008, No. 4 overall. They, teasingly, challenged the women riders to get out and ride, so I did.

The women on this site are awesome. Without the support and encouragement I have received from All the women riders, I know, I am not sure I would have pushed myself as much.

My husband was a big supporter as well. Thanks babe.

We can make a difference. We can make our mark. We can ride alone or with a group. Most important . . . . . .RIDE!!!
