What to do about ache feet

Postby SFW on Wed Jul 28, 2010 11:05 pm

I wanted to start a thread on how you gals releive the aching feet from a day of riding in the heat..then walking...and when you get home how do you get your feet back to being feet again???

I like vasoline's baby oil gel...put it on at night then a pair of cushy anckle socks and my feet still feel nice the next morning.

Any other ideas????

Before I started to wear MC boots my feet were baby soft & smooth...now they are eek!!

Lotion everyday after my shower and I use a pumice stone occasionally. I wear flip flops all the time, so they are exposed to everything. My hubby loves my feet!   Does that mean he has a fetish?....I think it's only my feet... :!:

I dont think about my feet much, they just stay there at the end of my legs mostly ignored. Occasionally I cut my toenails but in winter with socks on all the time, I dont even think of doing that because I cant even see them most times except for showering! So, I guess at the end of a ride, my feet serve the purpose of walking me to the comfy chair where I sit for a while! I used to walk everywhere barefoot in my "hippychild" days, feet had lots of rough skin but I could walk on prickles back then and not even feel them! Definately not the case now, they've softened up plenty because I lead a more "civilised" life! Standing on prickles now just make me go "ouch ouch"

I get a pedicure every few months. I know it's indulgent, but between working out and riding, my feet would be a mess without it. In between pedis, I use a file on my heels every few days after showering, to keep 'em smooth, and then of course lotion afterwards. Ok I admit it...underneath all the leather and the helmet, I can be a "girl" sometimes!

Once a year near Mother's Day, my sisters and I go to a nice day spa and get the "upscale" mani/pedi. It's a tradition we started when my mom was still alive, so we've continued it. I usually get what they call the "relaxology" pedicure. It's a combination of reflexology and a pedicure. OMG. It is THE BEST! Seriously...to have someone massage my feet...heels...arches...every single toe! It's SO worth it. Wish I could afford more than once a year.

One more thought...a friend of mine works at a health food grocery store. She's on her feet all day, and every night she comes home and soaks her feet in a warm water and epsom salt bath. She said it works wonders for her tired aching feet. I've never tried it, but sounds good huh?

If your feet actually ache at the end of a day of riding and walking, you probably need different boots.
Or, add some type of orthodics for support in the boots you have.

Except for where a couple of pair of boots rub my feet, my feet never really hurt from my boots.
One of these days I will get a particular pair of boots broke in, lol. Engineer, harness, pull on , type boots, sprained my ankle shortly after getting them, finally had zippers added, now I can get my right boot on!

Summer time, unless I'm riding, I have on sandals or flip flops. Fight to keep my feet smooth and looking good constantly, I hate these little things about getting older.

While soaking in the tub,I grab a hand full of plain ole Epson Salts and grind into all the spots that ache. This takes off the dead skin and any tender swelling, also leaves the feet very soft.

Exactly Trish - That may very well be the problem.... I remember my feet killing me after hours of riding because of the darn foot peg! Once I got my Vulcan 900 with the foot boards I have never had that pain again.

pegs and hgwy pegs...i should use the hgwy pegs more often.
I could do floor boards but - $$$ and DH wouldn't go for that right now.
Also wonder how that'll affect my leaning, maybe more scraping.

But heck my feet even hurt in my work shoes all day....never noticed that til after riding an MC though.
$400 for custom arch supports - EEK!!!! Dr Scholls are what I have currently - $49. And I have those in Joseph Seibel shoes to boot!

My knees ache while riding, the leg position on my bike is cramped even for a 5 foot 1 inch'er. I've found my new (you beaut) highway pegs just perfect for relieving that ache, would work for feet too I'd imagine. Great for changing leg and feet positions on a long ride.

I added highway pegs to big red because my one knee was aching and it helped me a lot too.
I carry shoes with me if I need to walk much because my boots are great for riding but awful for walking. I wear shoes with good arch supports and well formed foot beds all of the time because my feet used to bother me. The problem went away when I stopped buying shoes for style and put my foot health as the priority. Its a funny thing how much of your body can get sore when your feet aren't happy.

... Go to the islands and walk on the beaches all day ...

If I mentioned that to Hubby, he'd make a huge sand pit in the backyard for me!!! We used to live in Chas, SC, and you are not kidding about beach sand on the feetsies.

I do indulge quite a bit on pedis - every month in the least, and in between Hubby is my foot-boy. (Don't tell him, but he needs to take a few lessons from the pros.) I do the epsom salt soaks (cooler water than most if I've been on my feet all day), and use the scrubby things after showers. One of my favorite lotions before bed is cocoa butter. Little too goey to walk around on w/ lotion (we have hardwood floors), so I have to slip on flips (ucky feeling). Can tell a huge difference in how I feel if I don't take care of my feet.

My feet are allergic to socks and shoes - so anytime I am forced to cover them up, they rebel like bad children ... I put them on time-out (elevate) and set about to make them happy again ...

Happy feet to you all,
Cie
