Getting impatient

Postby shorty23 on Wed May 12, 2010 9:26 pm

I still haven't gotten my new scooter yet... It's a 2010 and they're ordering it from the U.S. but I've been waiting for weeks now... I can't wait to get it!!! The weather is nice and I'm missing out on riding time! :cry:

I hope you get it soon. I hate waiting for things to arrive. (especially a new scooter, that would be so frustrating with good weather happening).

Hope it gets there quick! (not quick enough). Anticipation loses it's luster when it takes too much longer than thought and especially with the feeling of losing days and time. The spring and summer are young still though-

Impatience is a big fault of mine. I know exactly how you must be feeling. I had to wait 6 weeks for my bike accessory order to arrive from the US, that was incredibly difficult. Let us know as soon as you get it.

It's coming from Piaggio U.S.
Not sure when it's supposed to be shipped... The dealership I bought it from says it's the first year they order from there, so they're not sure how long it should take. It got ordered on March 23rd.... I've already called them 3 times for an ETA... I feel like I'm bothering them and am hesitant to call again :oops:
Last time I called, they said "rest assured, we'll definitely call you when it gets in".... My patience is running thin... :cry:

My goodness it has been a long time. I think I would DEMAND a phone number of the place they ordered it from. I would be calling everyday until I got an appropriate answer. They did not hestitate to take your money. Don't you hestitate to DEMAND answers. Why have they not called the Company they say they ordered it from? I would think a Dealer would do that. Especially since it has been since March!!! You need some answers!!!

Oh my ... importing from an import dealer ... I don't think they are made here, maybe partially assembled and shipped to/from here, but they are all made in Italy ... I'm sure between the massive demand, restricted flights from Europe, etc., ... and then the whole customs thing between US/CA is causing delays. We had one import coming from CA (personally owned private property being shipped here to the owner) that took over two months and one item was held up indefinitely. (Money trap??)

To make time go by quicker, how about a blurb on which model you bought... I saw a neat little two front wheel dealie ... very cute scoot.

Fingers and toes crossed for ya!

Woohoo! I got an ETA. Should be here maybe next week. When I called on Wednesday, the guy said it had finally been shipped, but that it hadn't cleared customs yet. He said within 7 to 10 days probably they'd be getting it.

I don't want to infringe on copyrights, so here are a few links to info on the Piaggio BV... Mine's the 300, but there's not much info that I could find on it since it's new for this year in Canada... most of what I found was for the 250 and 500:
-> http://www.piaggiousa.com/scooters.php#/image_gallery/Piaggio%20BV%20TOURER%20250/4 -- Official US site, but they don't have the 300cc
-> http://www.twowheelsblog.com/post/1636/2009-piaggio-beverly-tourer-300-ie
-> http://danilogurovich.wordpress.com/2008/10/29/its-the-coolest-scooter-ive-ever-seen/

This site has more pics (but could be for the 250 or 500, but they look the same):
-> http://www.scootersales.com.au/News-1534-piaggio-beverly-tourer.aspx
-> http://www.besportier.com/archives/piaggio-bv500-reviews.html

And yes, it's the same as in my Avatar. :D Some of the pics on the sites above make it look like it's "flat" blue... but it's not.

Actually only got it today and not on Saturday as planned. It wasn't ready yet on Saturday... so I got it today, brought it home on a trailer since I needed to get the registration done... and then we already had a family dinner planned, so I didn't even get to ride it!! :(

And tomorrow after work I already have plans too with some friends that I haven't seen in forever... so I won't get to ride it 'till Wednesday! Talk about torture!!!!

Re: Getting impatient

Postby shorty23 on Thu Jul 01, 2010 12:18 pm

Finally went for a ride today! The weather hasn't been good at all around here this week, and it was pouring yesterday. So we went today for a little ride (my hubby and I -- him on his bike and me on my scooter). We rode for about 27 KMs (almost 17 miles). I loved the ride! My hubby said I did very well and I seemed more in control than with my old scooter when I first got it... But then I said "well, I hadn't ever ridden anything when I got the old scooter" but then he reminded me that I haven't ridden anything in over a year now... The ride was quite smooth on this bike and it's quite quiet! My old scooter was much louder in comparison.

What I didn't love so much was the stopping... This scooter/motorcycle is taller than my old one and also quite a bit heavier. I know my old one was just a 50cc and this one is a 300cc and it's normal... but I'm quite short (5' 1") and I have a very hard time touching the ground on this scooter... I can barely tip-toe on both sides... so I'm super scared of dropping it. If it starts to tip, there's no way I'll be able to keep it from falling.

We had to stop for gas and I had to have my hubby help me off it (well, he held it while I got off) because I was sure I would have dropped it. I also can't seem to get it off the center stand... With my old one, I could be on the ground, straddling it, and push it back with my bum to get it off the stand, but with this one, there's not enough room in front of the seat to do that... And it's way too heavy for me to push it off the stand while standing next to it. Not sure what to do...
There IS a side stand, so for now I can use that...

Anyone have tricks or know of anything I can do to help reach the ground more easily? And to get it off the center stand?

Apart from lowering, maybe some boots with extra height soles might be the answer. Mine give me about an inch extra height than the usual boots. As for keeping your bike on the sidestand, well, I do that with my bike a lot of the time, because I just cannot put it on the centrestand, its way too heavy. If hubby isn't around to help me, then it just stays on the sidestand. I dont think it would cause any major problems.

What boots do you have? My hubby and I were just out trying out different heights with some pieces of wood, and I'd need at least 1 and a half inch platform in the front to feel more at ease on the bike... More would be better, but I also don't want to break my neck while walking...

My boots a Harley "Brake Lights". The sole height is 1 and a quarter inch heel and three quarter inch at the toe, which may not be enough height for what you want. I am 5 foot 1 inch and with these boots I can just about touch flat footed both sides on my bike which has a 27 inch seat height. I know you can get boots with greater height soles. I think short of lowering your scooter it may be a good solution.

Those are very similar to the boots I actually have. They are also Harley boots. They are 7/8" in the front though... I need at least 1 inch and a half.

My hubby is looking into the option of adding a thicker sole to my boots to add the extra height... Or maybe I'll have to look on the Internet for some that have a thicker sole already as it is...

I'd be afraid, shorty, if you had too much sole and landed on unstable ground - would that cause you to lose footing - like walking in platform shoes?

How heavy is that bike, really? Can you practice in your yard with your hubby on one side or the other and on purpose let it lean to one side or the other. The main thing is to have your landing foot (one leg stand) wide enough to give you leverage against the CoG of the scooter. Once you see that letting it tip a couple inches on either side instead of always standing perfectly upright - it may give you confidence to not worry about stops on two feet.

Not sure if your scooter is an open front (where you can place your feet side by side) or one that looks more like a motorcycle ... if it is open - is your seat too long in the front, kinda stopping you from getting your feet down? I'm remembering the difference between the old English racer bikes and the banana seat trick bikes of the 70s ... on the English racers I always had to come off the seat forward, then drop my feet to the ground. Always hated having the front of that seat jammed into my back on hard stops. The banana seat bikes could adjust their seats down in the front to keep you from "snagging" on the front.

Hope that helps some. Good luck and very glad you're out on the road now!
