Life's challenges are different for all of us, but none are minute. Vent away, and hang tough!

Between a midterm, quilt, and a coach that drove me nuts...I would be overwhelmed too!

I'm sorry to hear about the coach, though. That' s such a crappy spot to be in. I commend the team for going to speak directly to the AD. It sounds like the girls have their heads on straight - it's important to learn the skill of mature communication and they're on their way. It's also a bonus that if they are not well received they have options to continue swimming elsewhere. It always seems that the kids are the ones that get shafted in situations like these. Let us know how that meeting goes!!

Also...SNOW?

Hi Michelle,
As a (former) swim mom myself, I can totally relate to what you have going on up there. It is indeed very frustrating when the coaching situation is sub-par, at best. Is the club swimming situation any better than the high school one? Here in Oklahoma, since we have no college swimming (at any level, D-I,II or III) it is very difficult for us to attract quality HS coaches. There are a few, but they are hard to come by. Our district has a policy of (1)teacher first, then (2)coach next. And there just aren't many teachers who have a good swim background that are interested in spending the extra time outside the classroom that this sport requires. Hope your daughter can hang in there and things will work out, either with the present team or the neighboring town team.
And hey, ninth overall in the breaststroke is pretty darn awesome, since a great percentage of kids can't even swim the breast without getting DQ"d. Sounds like she's got another shot at state (maybe two?) and she'll come back stronger and more determined to place higher and perhaps take away a championship medal along the way. My older kid swam 2 years in college (D-III) and my daughter wrapped up her HS career last February, so all my swim meets are behind me. I sorta think that's why I took up motorcycling, to fill the void that was left after all the booster club stuff I was involved in for both HS and club. Hang in there and do what you're doing now...being the encourager and biggest fan. Best wishes!
