An idea for us short gals...

Postby FurmanMa on Mon Aug 17, 2009 6:38 pm

I'm very short - 4'11" with a 26 inch inseam. I never thought I'd be able to ride much of a bike. It was even kindof tough on the Honda Rebel in the MSF class. I bought a Honda Shadow 600 which let me flat foot, but I was still challenged with reaching the controls. I was thinking that I would modify the seat this winter, but wasn't willing to let the bike sit for that long. I bought a round lumbar roll and strapped it to my saddle. Wow, what a difference! It keeps me forward in the saddle, so I'm not sliding back. I can reach the foot contols with ease, and I have some support so I can sit up straight and not slump. It was a great solution for me and inexpensive too! :D

That's a great idea, I'm glad it helped you. Another suggestion is a drivers backrest, which works much the same way in keeping you sitting up straight. I've considered getting one just because I slump back so bad, which puts me further from the bars.

I want a drivers backrest so bad....I'm almost reduced to begging.I have found that when I wear a wide width leather belt it give me a feel of lower back support, and I don't slump.

Prairielady -

I won't be able to post a pic until Sunday (maybe). Our family is in the final stages of packing to move daughter off to college for the first time. We're driving up Friday morning, early. If we get home Sunday early enough, I'll take a pic of that lumbar roll and post it. It's great!

This way, if my DH needs to ride the bike, he can just move the roll out of the way and ride.
