If it's on a 'corner' there will probably be a lot of resistance to it pulling out.
Suction probably won't be enough unless in mid panel where it can 'pop' back out.
You can drill a small hole and use a dent/panel puller but then you'll need to plug the hole again properly - don't take chances with fuel, obviously.
Try eBay for a replacement tank?

I wonder if the tank was drained well and the fumes allowed to evaporate (fumes are WAY more explosive than liquid) if it could be tapped out? Auto repair guys have some amazing tools that might work.

I got hold of a plunger and tried to pull it out that way but it didnt work. Weve been really short on money and so decided that any cosmetic work on the bikes should be put off and just concentrate on having them running well. Still and all, I want my baby to look as best as she can be, and that dint really is distracting. DH has a bigger dint on his petrol tank but he isnt concerned at all about it (........thats menfolk for you!.........) and cant understand why I wanted mine fixed. Am now trying to ignore it.

If the metal is creased, wouldn't there be a greater chance of surface rust developing? I have always thought that the tanks weren't actually poly-whatever bladders inside a metal tank, but actually a metal tank holding petrol (fuel/gas). If so, it would stand to reason it would have to have some sort of electroplated interior coating ... and thus, with a dent or crease, more likely to have raw metal exposed to moisture and air, and corrode.

Is there any way to completely drain the tank, remove it from the bike and get a good look at what is or may be going on inside?

TB, would that be right, or close to right?
