Dear VTwin Mama,
I have a 2003 Honda Shadow Spirit 750. Have you heard of any problems
with the air filter just falling off? I was riding down the highway and
the air filter just flew off! When I went to put it back on, the bolts
to hold it in were still tight - so tight we nearly bent the support
bracket trying to unscrew them to put the filter back in. It seems to be
a manufacturer's flaw that the air filter brackets are slots instead of
holes. – Gwen
Dear Gwen,
I have not heard of this problem and can only image the surprised look
on your face when it happened! You might find info on the HondaShadow
board ... it takes a bit of searching but women have reported that
it's worth your efforts as often times you come across other info that
is helpful. Any readers out there who have experienced the flying air
filter ... time to chime in! – Mama

June 3 Discovery Channel Seeks Accident Survivors w/
Facial Injuries
Dear VTwin Mama,
Hi,
my name is Lily Marotta and I want to reach out to your
network of accident survivors. I'm working with the Discovery Channel on
a new show that helps accident victims recover from their injuries
through reconstructive surgery. Specifically we are looking for people
who have facial injuries. Thanks, – Lily Marotta,

to address the injury and perform corrective surgery in order to restart
their lives. For further info please send your name, phone number, email
contact and a photo of yourself along with a paragraph about your story,
details of the injury and how it has impeded your life.
Send all the information to

We will contact you ASAP
Dear VTwin Mama,
There really is a similarity between the
"butterflies" brought on by an anticipated curve and the
references that your insightful readers wrote about when they described
earlier life, unpleasant, even harmful (physically, emotionally and
psychologically) memories. I once told one of my MSF instructors
that I'll be glad for the day when I pray in earnest for riding skills
instead of praying I'll make the curve. He told me pretty much
what you recommended. And you're both absolutely right.
Bad anxiety can be lowered and managed with increased
skill and practice; increased skill and practice; increased skill and
practice. There's a rider's reality to the skills learned in MSF,
mounting a trusty iron horse, and taking to curves an engineer designed
for motorized transit. What remains is what Dr. Francine Shapiro,
refers to as "negatively stored memories." Falling off a
horse and breaking an arm or having the voices of a multitude of
naysayers filling your head with self-doubt, gives fertile ground for
seeding "bad anxiety" (or so-called self-doubt).
The only thing those seeds need to germinate and sprout
their "negatively stored memories" into the present are
triggers like your readers described: a curve, coming to a stop on a
hill, the need to make a U-turn, and lots more. Oneness with the
iron horse may give rise to negatively stored memories. Facing
them instead of giving up riding is the beginning of increased freedom
to live and enjoy life. Tackle and eliminate the negatively stored
memories and all curves afterward will become practice opportunities to
increase your MSF skills (and enjoy riding with your partner). –

Dear Robert,
Thank you so much for sharing a professional perspective on
anticipation, expectation, anxiety and those negative thoughts that can
lodge in a person's head and keep someone from their dream of riding
with skill and confidence. I'm sure there are a number of methods to get
those "negatively stored memories" out of one's cranium ...
I'm an advocate of positive imagery ... when a negative thought comes
in, immediately replace it by seeing yourself doing it smoothly and
well. Combined with more practice, it makes a difference. – Mama
Dear VTwin Mama,
How do I adjust the height of my 2003 Ridley Autoglide
... it is too low and my foot rest scrapes the floor. Thanks so much for
the help. – Anon
Dear Anon,
Hmmm ... we usually hear from gals who want to go lower, not higher!
Since Ridley was bought out by 2 Wheel Ventures I've noticed that the
website seems to house lots more info, including links to maintenance
tutorials. Still, there's nothing on shock adjustments. This Ridley
Technical Support page notes that registered owners can get free
support on all issues ... or you could use the Location
map to find the closest dealer to call and ask. Sorry that I can't
be of more help ... let's see if any Ridley owners chime in with advice.
– Mama
NOTE
The VTwin Mama site went on summer hiatus for the rest of June through
August.
