Before the show started,
Marty and I visited the State Capital Building in Atlanta. We spent
time inside looking at historic photos and artifacts and standing in
the rotunda under the gold dome. |
|

|
. . . and walking around the area . . .
don't you just love this whale painting?! |
|

|
The entrance to the show . . . |
|

|
BMW GSE650
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
Most important thing I learned is that BMW is offering adjustable
suspension that can bring the 32.3" seat height down to
29.5" and they've got a new seat (which is a free swap) that
will bring the seat down 1".
I understand that this bike will soon be replaced by an updated
version |

|
Atlantis 3 Pro Suit (BMW)
Sporty styling with cowhide suede . . . for me, the best of both
worlds! Waterproof with stretch zones where all your joints move and
you can add protector inserts. Totally yummy! |
|

|
BMW K1200R
Laura from Snewell, GA (5'2") (she has a K1200RS)
Sorry about that back shot Laura . . . Marty and I were still
trying to get the concept of photographing women on bikes at the
show. The point is to show Laura's height and this bike . . . see
her tippy toes?! |
|

|
Victory Hammer
Star from Augusta, GA (5'3") (she has a Ducati Monster)
With riding boots she'll be planted on the ground but that reach
to the foot control could be something of a concern. I prefer a wide
open stance to the handlebar, but others prefer arms and elbows more
tucked in. |
|

|
HD Softail Duece
Sharon from Chipley, FL (5'6") (she has a Sportster 883)
This looks nice on her! |
|

|
HD V-Rod
Kristin from Suwanee, GA (5'8")
Her thought: all the controls are perfectly placed! |
|

|
Victory Vision
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
Well here it is . . . the much anticipated Vision touring bike .
. . it had a lot of people looking twice! The bike will be at
dealers some time in Fall.
There is no doubt I could see myself going down the road on a
long haul with this bike. |
|

|
HD RoadKing Custom
Marty (6'0") and Petra (5'10")
This has been Marty's dream for awhile and we agreed it's a
beautiful sitting and stylish bike. But further down you'll see what
turned both of our heads! |

Victory Vegas Jackpot
Magarite from Marietta, GA (5'4") (she has a Yamaha 750)
Right leg reach to foot control could be a challenge, but this 6
speed fit otherwise.
Both the Victory 8 Ball and Vegas have higher seats than the
Jackpot.

|
Suzuki Boulevard M109R
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
Come on now . . . I just look HOT on this bike! A touring cruiser
with some sporty styling and all the right set-up (shaft drive,
liquid cooled, fuel-injected, 240 rear tire) . . . no heated grips
(what?!?!?!) but I'll figure something out!
And look at those exhaust pipes . . . pure joy . . . seat
switches to a dual and I think they had hard saddlebags already . .
. really need to go for a test ride soon!
Ok, the last two pics aren't from Atlanta, but Daytona bike week.
Say hi to Kat on this bike! She took it for a healthy demo ride! Kat
is my height (5'10") . . . don't you just love the Tshirt she
has one?!?!?!?!
|
|

|
Suzuki Burgman 400 and 650
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
The gray 400 was a bit cramped for my height but the red 650 felt
fine. Mid-range and Mega-Scooters are worth a look if you want an
automatic transmission, but note even at my height, that seat isn't
exactly low!
I found out they'll be having demo rides at the Myrtle Beach
Spring Rally, so I'm finally going to go and check out this ride for
myself! |
|

|
Suzuki Boulevard M50
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
You know, when it starts out at a 27" seat height, even the
shorter gals have a shot at this one! |
|

|
Piaggio MP3
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
It's been touted as the next revolution, but heck, it's a 250.
Those two wheels up front offer more traction (cool) but it doesn't
balance exactly like a backwards trike (which is what I thought!) . . .
it has a button for locking the tilt in at stops so you don't have
to put your feet down and releases when you hit the throttle again.
|
|

|
Honda VTX1800 and VTX1300
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
Yellow is hot and that VTX1800 is a dream come true . . . I'm
feeling a little less stretched out than the Suzuki Boulevard M109R.
And look at my feet. Heck, if I was 5'7" in riding boots, I'd
bet there would no problem.
The VTX1300s are also nice and I like that both bikes are already
available in a variety of option packages for different looks (i.e.
sport, retro, neo-retro, etc.) That seat height is already
beautifully low, and even the 5'3" gals are finding this to fit
with maybe a handlebar pullback modification.

Well, I'm a big fan of heated grips, and I know there are
aftermarket kits to make grips heated, but of course this display
caught my eye! Gerbing is a big name in heated gear and it was
trying out their interactive displays!
|
|

|
Don't you just love this booth?!?!?! What a great concept to have
all the main women's riding organizations pull together.
That's Sue from WMF with me . . . what a great talk we had.
Queen of Pink was in the booth as well, but I can't seem to find
the pictures at the moment! |

ROK Straps
http://www.rokstraps.com
Sorry about the fuzzy picture Rolf-Immo Gabbe, but I loved
talking with you about your ROK Straps. I was truly impressed with
these versatile strap downs. Get rid of the bungee cords . . . that
is just so old technology! Rolf-Immo put a lot of time and thought
into exactly what riders need and delivers with real style!
|
|

|
She-Moto
http://www.she-moto.com
Tiina Perttu's most beautiful jacket designs on display. When I
watched different sized women try on her clothing, I was truly
impressed on how absolutely wonderful each person looked! These
really stood out for the crowd of other gear on the show
floor!
That's Jennifer from Marietta, GA in the Moto-Cause jacket (I
call it the ribbon jacket!). Pink of course for breast cancer
awareness, but also available in red (HIV) and purple (domestic
violence) awareness. Tiina donates $20 from each sale to the chosen
cause.

|
Yamaha VStar Silverado Stratoliner
Beth from Social Circle, GA (5'3")
With her riding boots she would be locked in foot control-wise
but the handlebars were a bit widely spaced . . . pullback riser
maybe?
|
|

|
Yamaha VStar Stratoliner
Marty (6'0")
Hmmmm . . . not bad!
|
|

|
Yanmaha Roadliner
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
I'm looking very comfortable with those floorboards!

Motowear
http://www.motowearllc.com
Well, this yellow caught my eye like a deer in headlights! Faig
(pronounced Fike) Butt is from Liverpool and moved to Charlotte, NC
a year ago and designs his own line of m/c clothing. Yummy
sporty-styles!
Right now I'm not sure what's up with the website link, but I'll
call him and find out!
|
|

|
Yamaha VStar Custom
Elizabeth from Indiana (5'6")
She learned to ride on a Rebel! This bike looks good on her and
one can see that even a shorter gal could get her feet on the ground
with this seat height!
|
|

|
Kawasaki Vulcan
Judy from Georgia (5'3") (she rides a Sportster 883)
I wish I had gotten a picture with her feet on the floorboards
because it looks like it could be a bit of a reach for true comfort,
even with her riding boots on. But the seat height is fine and the
handlebar looks comfy!
|
|

|
Kawasaki Vulcan 500LTD
Mauri from Huntsville, AL (5'1 3/4")
Oops, forgot to take notes on what she was thinking on this one.
But I like how this mid-range cc bike doesn't appear to be too
"small" in terms of overall look.
|
|

|
Kawasaki Mean Streak
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
Now that's some bold styling but I really am falling in love with
the more flat black paint jobs . . . it's just got a creamy feel to
it. I'm also not really missing that excessive chrome look either .
. . at least on this bike!
|
|

|
HD Wideglide
Petra, aka VTwin Mama (5'10")
I specifically sat on this as for the longest time, it was my
dream bike (during the years I was riding my '76 HD customized
Superglide). I still love this sleek styling and more raked out
front end, but that's the great thing about bikes . . . you can love
a lot of them and if you win the lottery, buy lots!

Three writers together! Say hi to Carla King (seated) . . . author
of American
Borders: A solo-circumnavigation of the United States on a
Russian sidecar motorcycle and Lynn Reynolds from CycleConnections.com,
an online motorcycle magazine.
We had more pictures, but they were all fuzzy . . . Marty must of
gotten jostled standing in the aisle trying to snap us!
What wonderful women . . . I loved chatting with sister
journalists and sharing what writing means to us!
I'll be reviewing Carla's book soon! |
|

|
Me and Lisa from the local HOG chapter! She and Gil were such a joy
to talk with!
Me and Jen from WV . . . Jen is a huge supporter of my site and
message board and I truly appreciate her input . . . hubby Larry was
talking with Marty while the two of us were gabbing on end!
Me and PurplePonyGal (who wasn't in purple, but is when she
rides!) . . . we got to spend lots of time together at the AMA Women
& Motorcycle Conference last July . . . truly a great lady and
friend!
|
|

Ok, you had to know that my parting picture would be me on that
Suzuki Boulevard M109R again! Look at that devilish grin I've got
going on! Come to Mama! |
